Second Guess

A time is called out. The hands are already sweeping toward it, and you get exactly one tap. Land it on the dot and it pays four times what a loose read does; let the moment slide past and it costs you a mark. Three marks is the whole run. The catch is that the dial keeps giving things up as you go: first the numerals, then the minute marks, then the hour marks, and eventually it stops sitting straight at all. By then you are reading a bare brass face and a single blue dot for twelve.
